Kids Art Tutorials | How to Doodle a Tortoise

Hi, I’m Ali Hargreaves and I’m the tutor for Ready, Steady, Paint! I’ve come up with some exciting children’s art activities which I’d like to share with you.  The following art activity is free and shows you how to draw a tortoise and then doodle on it’s shell! Over the next few weeks I’m going to be sharing lots more free fun activities for you to complete with me, so make sure you keep checking our website and social media for more!

Step-by-step Guide

1) First of all you need to draw the basic shapes of the tortoise lightly with a pencil.
2) Then use a fine black pen (this could be a fine tip pen, a felt tip pen or a biro) to define the shape and draw the features of the tortoise. See mine.
3) Now fill in the different sections of the tortoise with as many different patterns that you can think of.
Use zig zags, waves, stars, hearts, flowers, triangles, checks, thick lines, thin lines, loops, circles, spirals, dots, spots, overlapping, and so on.
4) You could either leave it in black and white or colour it in with felt pens, coloured crayons, ink or watercolour paint.

Hope you’ve had fun. Remember to let us know how you get on and send us photos of your doodles…we’d love to see them!
